The majority of integrated life course theories conclude that there are identifiable signs in childhood that can predict criminality. These at-risk signs include aggressiveness, hyperactivity, attention deficit, disorganized neighborhoods, inconsistent and inadequate parenting, and much more relating to personality and environment. An individual does not become criminal if he has just one at-risk quality, but multiple coupled with a lack of intervention. At-risk youth can be identified and strategies for preventing and correcting at-risk behaviors and environmental influences can be implemented so that adult criminality does not occur (Ontario Ministry, 2013). There are many strategies for preventing at-risk behaviors in focusing on violence there are seven noted by the world health organization. These seven include: (1) increasing safe, stable and nurturing relationships between children and their parents and care givers; (2) developing life skills in children and adolescents; (3) reducing avail-ability and harmful use of alcohol; (4) …show more content…
These skills allow individuals to effectively deal with everyday challenges in society. Early childhood programs can prevent aggression, improve social skills, and boost educational achievement. There are many more programs shown to be effective in teaching life skills, but since early childhood programs seem to have the best outcomes we will focus on this. It has been shown that high quality early childhood programs can have a positive long-term impact on individuals, including reducing violence (World Health Organization, 2010). Life course theories would see early childhood programs as a point of intervention in a child’s life that can counter an at-risk personality or environmental cause. With this intervention adult criminality will not occur because the possible aggressive personality will be corrected by proper mentoring in the
