It would take time to develop and to get all of the states on board but it would distinguish the nurse again. The majority of nurses do not want to go back to all white uniforms because it is not practical in the varying roles of nursing. But thinking back to when everyone knew who the nurse was when she did wear white. It was the symbol of the nurse however, research now finds some the white frightens children, creates homogeneity, and is perceived as depressing, and is not good in an environment where clothing regularly becomes stained by blood and other substances (Tobin, 2006). But again, the nurse was easily identifiable just as a police officer is quickly identified by his/her uniform. The idea would be to bring the same approach into the health care setting.

The Merriam Webster dictionary’s definition states “uniform means not varying or changing; staying the same at all times, in all places, or for all parts or members”. There should be more evaluation for the uniform than just a color however. Uniforms for nurses should be focused on by research like what colors soothe and promote relaxation and healing, what materials are comfortable during long shifts or are resistant to germs and clean
