Their values are based around compassion and building relationships with their patients. Instead of blaming the patient for not taking the medication prescribed, the social worker indeed took her time to figure out the underlying factors preventing her from taking the medication. During this approach, the patient explained what was happening, therefore she can work with her to find a solution. “Social workers are trained to broaden their basis for clinical discussion; to incorporate problems that are overlooked by physicians, these social workers emphasize their rights of their clients to self-determination.” (Vanwiechen, 2018) Also, this follows a contractual model, this model supports patient’s decisions based on their values and what they feel is right. The main issue between these health professionals is how to collaborate; they lack an understanding of responsibilities from others, especially patients. (Vanwiechen, 2018) According, to CMPA due to the lack of interprofessional collaboration there has been some liability issues arising. To collaborate efficiently reduce legal issues, keep a record of consideration, and promote patient safety. In addition, a policy and procedural framework define the type of collaboration that is being presented to patients. Those registered under a medical license such as a physician, dietitian, or dentist lack the empathy and care that patients need and deserve. Those who provide care and create relationships are social workers and nurses, however, they are in a different category than licensed professionals.
