A diaper bag — more like a utility bag — is basically a parent’s life support for the next two to three years of running numerous errands, going on various adventures, and anything else they do with their baby in tow.

While it is nice to always be prepared, if you are not careful, your diaper bag can easily become overpacked, heavy, and cluttered with unnecessary items. The good news is that even with all the things our little loved ones need, it isn’t always necessary to pack everything. To help parents out there who are tired of lugging around a diaper bag filled with who knows what, we put together a list of diaper bag essentials that you won’t want to leave home without!

For my service project, my group went to the DC Diaper Bank to learn about the existing problems that many low-income families face, as well as to assist the drive in any way we could. When we first got there, we watched an introductory video that informed us about just how much support families in the area need. I was stunned to learn that forty-four percent of children under that age of three live in low-income families in the DC area. The parents of those children are struggling financially to make ends meet, and individuals in the community felt compelled and created the DC Diaper Bank. The video also informed us that babies who do not have clean diapers are more likely to cry more, which has an extremely negative impact on the development of their body and minds.…
