DIBELS: Basic Early Literacy Skills As General Outcome Measures

DIBELS was designed to assess the big ideas in reading. It was developed to be economical and efficient measures of students progress toward a general outcome. Research has documented the validity and reliability of the measures. DIBELS serves as indicators of the Basic Early Literacy Skills as General Outcome Measures. We use them because it provides teachers with standards for monitoring student progress. It identifies students who may not meet future benchmarks and allows for teachers to plan strategies.
