According to the article Holding on to Play by Lisa Woods “Play is important for brain, cognitive, linguistic, physical, psychological and socio-emotional development and wellbeing” (Woods 48). In this article Woods demonstrates the importance of play in a classroom, and she also shows how important it is for teachers to be advocates for play in their schools, and to have a support staff of likeminded peers, parent and students. Based on this article I believe that play is vital in the education of children, I believe it can teach children important biblical lessons, and I plan on having play an essential part of my classroom.

Wood says that every teacher should have people they can go to for support. This group should consist of other teachers, some who have more experience than you, and parents who might have some creative ideas for how to incorporate play into your classroom. She says that “keeping an open door” (Wood 49) is an important approach to teaching. You should not be concerned of what other teachers think of your teaching, and you should welcome their constructive criticisms. Also, in the article Wood talked about the importance of play for a child. She said “I discovered [through research], that perhaps all I really needed to know I learned in Kindergarten” (Wood 48). I plan to allow my classroom to always be open as much as possible to anyone who wants to come in to observe me, or critique my teaching for me. I am the type of person who does not take criticism very well. Having other teachers critique me will allow me to grow my personality into a better person, and it might also help me, as a teacher to improve my teaching. According to an article titled Observing Other Teachers by Jordan Catapano, “One of the best and most easily accessible ways we can witness other approaches to teaching comes from the colleagues at our schools” (Catapano 1). I plan to ask teachers who I know do a great job of incorporating play if I could peak in sometime to see someone who has it down
