Developmental Background Information
Alonte’ is the youngest of 4 children. He has an older step-sister, Natasha, from mom that is 19 from a previous relationship. A step-brother named Jason that is 14 from his dad previous relationship from mom. Then a brother, Jayden, that is 3 years old. They are a year apart in age. Alonte’ birthday is September 1st and Jayden is September 7th. He lives with mom, dad, and brother Jayden.
Alonte’ has been working on potty training with mom for the last 6 months. He has been wearing both underwear and pull ups in the process. He is able to go to the restroom on his own without assistance. He is having trouble going number 2 in the potty. He is able to be dry at home, but in public …show more content…
I found that his pretending with objects was able to reach the uses imaginary objects. He did this by pretending to make pizza out of a play garage and handing to his sister to pretend to eat it. In another area, he was able to accomplish the Imitates actions of role, including dress. He was practicing adult roles in this play experience. He did this by putting on a wig and high heels holding a purse. He said to his brother Jayden, “I am mommy. Do you want to go?”. This was how he played to learn to deal with his tension and stress as a toddler. He also was able to fall and pick himself up, if he wasn’t able to do a certain task the first time he would keep trying until he accomplished it. This showed that play involves risks. Play is the best way young children learn. They learn to enhance their social, physical, emotional and cognitive in all four areas of learning during play.
Overall, Alonte’ enjoys Functional Play according to Smilansky because he loves sensory activities like water and sand toys. He is also in the make believe action and with objects when playing in different social aspects of play. In the beginning of the observation he mainly was a solitary, play with adults, and onlooker. After a few observations, he was able to move along to parallel and associate. The final observation he was t the cooperative play with a group of children. He might not be at this stage due to not being around children in his regular environment at
