While Great-Grandma and Laurie both lie, they lie for different reasons. Great-Grandma Breckenridge lies to the news channels to make her life look more interesting. She has lived in three centuries and people actually believed her when she said she lived through some of the most destructive events that she read about in books. Now on the other hand, Laurie lies to get out of being in trouble. Laurie makes up a fake student in his class named Charles and tells his parents about all the terrible things that he does. When Laurie’s parents meet his teacher they then learn that Charles doesn't exist and that all the bad things that Laurie said Charles did were actually the bad things that Laurie did. So, Great-Grandma Breckenridge lies to seem more interesting and Laurie lies to cover up his tracks, two very different reasons for both of them to
