In the poem My Papa’s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, the article Coming of Age Whether They like it or Not by Megan Rubiner Zinn, the novel Coach Wooden and Me by Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and my personal connection would playing sports or working while enjoying both it all comes down to choose one, all show coming of age through a common theme of making hard decisions that help their future decisions.

The connection between the two is coming of age by helping one achieve what they want, a bribe. “I felt guilty that I was living a privileged life playing basketball in California, studying at a top university, while other kids my age were being denied the same opportunities because of the color of their skin.”(4 7-11) My personal connection would play sports or work while enjoying both it all comes down to choose one, While I very much enjoy playing basketball for school and with my friends. Money has been my best friend since I was little. My parents told me I would always ask for a dollar from everyone. Then again basketball has been there since the start as well. Growing up I always said it would be cool to be on tv. By this I meant being in the NBA, later on I got into number only coming to realize the sats of making it into the NBA were slim to none only 1.3% of High school senior players are eventually drafted by an NBA team while about every 0.03% is the chance of getting four of a kind in the first round of draw poker.
