This novel is a boy being unnamed, who moves from village to the city life. He becomes a money bag in a nameless city of South Asia. This novel is also a love story and talks about opportunity and inequality. The inter generational divide in the domestic oppositions between relations is efficiently portrayed in this novel. Hamid presents the psychoanalysis of the character belonging from a middle class South Aian society. The novel ends with the death of the hero who is surrounded by his ex-wife, his son and his beloved in his teens. These essays are about Hamid;s life and experiences that influenced his life, his works and sense of identity. This book is divided into three sections life, art and politics. The first part deals with the life of Hamid's childhood and adulthood. The second part is about art and literature in which he focuses on the importance of self invention. The third section is very interesting in which Hamid could ne seen as a harsh critic of globalization. He gives great insight into the international politics in this section. Hamid's writings are very intellectual, Compassionate and give a great insight into the harsh and bitter realities, that are powerful and productive. He is indeed a very talented writer of this
