Master and Slave Relationship, Devotion, Loyalty, and Duty
In this novel, there are various themes that are quite knowledgeable and should be made aware of. Some of the serious themes are bullying, discrimination, and relationships between slaves and masters. The novel is well rounded of many characters the 2 main characters are Amir, the narrator telling his story, and Hassan, a boy with a cleft lip. The relationship between the 2 characters relates to the theme of the novel that I chose of. To start off, the story is told by Amir in the future about his childhood and his past, the events that occurred that makes the man he is today. During his childhood, he had a servant, a young boy with a cleft lip, Hassan. Hassan and his father Ali, lived in the house of Baba, father Amir, they were the servants to them. Even though, Ali and Hassan were servants, their relationship was not of a master and servant professional relationship. Baba and Amir treated them like family; they loved Amir and Hassan.
Pg. 89. Amir asks, “Baba, have you ever thought about getting new servants?” Baba says, “Why would I ever want to do that?”

That is the relationship that Baba and Amir has with Ali and Hassan, the master and slave relationship. The relationship between master and slave does not have to be demeaning or cruel to one another and the master doesn’t have to treat them like a slave. There can be a relationship like Baba and Ali or Amir and Hassan, they care about each other, love each other, and they were all one big family that would hate to lose one another, forgiving no matter what. Even though, Amir betrayed Hassan he still cares about him and Hassan still cares about
