Shelter animals are strays that have been caught and/or turned in by people. In shelters, there are generally more dogs than cats (Shore 107). With dogs, it 's mainly adult German shepherds, labs, and Rottweilers, and there are more adults than puppies. The amount of cats is roughly the same as the amount of kittens. There are more male animals than female and only a few are altered (Shore 107). Animals are treated differently depending on their environment.
