The abilities to discover and learn manifest themselves during infancy; and these primordial inclinations allow us to gather knowledge and make important connections throughout life. The school system allows for the harnessing of these natural abilities and for the socialization of children. However, children may only garner knowledge in a legitimate, enriching environment. The school shown in the video is far from being an enriching environment—it’s a dilapidated building teeming with human health violations. Upon seeing these awful conditions, one may wonder how any child can be expected to flourish in an environment such as that one. The video displaying this school and all of it’s issues relates directly to multiple aspects of sociology.
Before exploring the deplorable conditions of the school, one may notice a predominantly black population. This is due to migration that occurred years ago. Diana Kendall defines it as “the movement of people from one geographic area to another for the purpose of changing residency” (Kendall 2015).
