What aspects of the classic version of the oath no longer appear in the modern version?
Many aspects of the original oath do not appear in the modern version such as the initial start of the oath “I swear by Apollo Physician and Asclepius and Hygieia and Panaceia and all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses” this aspect of the oath enforces and assumes that all individuals taking the oath are religious or have loyalty to stay true to “Apollo Physician and Asclepius and Hygieia and Panaceia”. Another aspect of the oath that was not included in the modern oath is “I will come for the benefit of the sick…free of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations with both female and male persons”. I believe this is an unsaid rule that everyone should follow and it was not included in the modern oath because the act of benefiting from the sick is immoral.
