The impact on the organization by overhauling our corporate training with a MOOC will be of minimal to medium disruption. Compared to other systems, corporate training systems are unique in that they are not essential to daily operations yet are extremely useful. This is especially so for Aman Resorts because the already used training system will not be removed or taken offline until all useful features are transferred to the MOOC format. For Aman Resorts, disruption to usual business operations will come during the final release, content generation, and familiarizing the new system. Since Aman Resorts will not turn to third party experts for the majority of the implementation process, the MOOC implementation will require a very through project plan. As such, without prerequisite company internal knowledge or capabilities, it is best to approximate the cost of the planned solution.
Current MOOC companies and companies that implement MOOC solutions generally do not have accessible finance reports, and therefore, it can be difficult to calculate costs for MOOC production without actively engaging in their services. As Fischer et al. (2015) states, “…none of the providers deliver relevant information regarding calculated costs for MOOC production or the provision of a technical platform. Unfortunately, this information is urgently needed in order to derive sustainable financing concepts” (para. 18). Fortunately, several costs can be estimated with great accuracy. For instance, costs for MOOC productions, such as video production, post-video production, and computer infrastructure are relatively the same everywhere (Fischer et al., 2014, para 2). A MOOC cost model by Fischer et al., (2014), gives us an insight of how much it may cost a company to implement parts of a MOOC (para. 23). In the cost model, shown in Table 1, there is a cost of roughly €59,635 or $62,957 per year. However, as a user and not a provider, a majority of these costs would only be initial costs. For instance, as shown in Table 1, a large part of yearly costs, €43,560.35, was for on-going platform development, which is not an issue for Aman Resorts. Although, arguably, deploying the platform would probably incur a similar cost during the initial stages. The model also differs with costs of maintaining Lecturers and Teaching Assistants, something Aman Resorts will not need. However, we can assume similar costs would be incurred in hiring expert help during the implementation. The model does estimate other costs accurately enough. For instance, costs for project management is accurate, as well as for content generation. Therefore, while the cost model does not entirely represent what Aman Resorts will have in mind, is it a good rough estimate. Aman Resorts should project an assumed cost of €59,635 per year with decreasing costs over the project
