Criteria Should Zachary use to evaluate the projects
Zachary, civil engineering student, has three different projects to be executed. First is related with the improvement in the highway in front of Big John’s supermarket, second is related to repair of Elk Mountain road and third one is repair of bridge over Crockett Creek. However, due to the lack of proper resources, Zachary has to made choice regarding the priority of the projects. In this regard, he has to evaluate all the projects available on the basis of some criteria (Case Study: Transportation Improvement). Some of the crucial criteria that Zachary should use to evaluate the projects can be listed as below:

In this regard, the project related to the development in the highway in front of Big John’s supermarket (project 1), would require significant amount of money due to its complex geographic situation. Moreover, Big John is also not ready to contribute in the project. In addition to the project of repair of Elk Mountain road (Project 2) would have high social cost as this one of the major route of transportation for the city. However, there is an alternate available for the city for transportation, but for heavy transportation, this road in bad conditions. Along with this, another project considered is repair of bridge over Crockett Creek (project 3) can be considered quite crucial for the city as this bridge connects state correctional facility (prison) with rest of the city. Since, the prison is the major employer of Mainville, this bad condition of the bridge can be considered quite critical for the employment status of the city. Bad conditions of the bridge is indicating that it would be washed away in the coming rain which would disconnect prison with the rest of the city. It would lead to harm economic viability of the city. Moreover, in comparison to the road construction projects, the repair of the bridge would be less expensive. This project would also be less time consuming which make it more attractive for the commissioners to be accepted. People of city have no alternative route to reach prison, which enhances the significance and requirement of the project for the city. In this way, on the basis of discussion, it can be reflected that project related to the repair of bridge over Crockett Creek would be put on higher
