There are seven stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
1. Stage 1: there is no impairment and the disease remains undetectable.
2. Stage 2: very mild memory problems may occur. Memory decline starts.
3. Stage 3: the memory declining becomes noticeable. Difficulty in recognizing people, conversing occurs.
4. Stage 4: this stage clearly showcases Alzheimer’s. Patients have poor short term memory and managing details gets very difficult.
5. Stage5: in this stage, affected cannot manage their lives alone. They need help for their day to day activities like dressing up, eating etc.

Alzheimer’s disease can surely only be diagnosed after death, by the autopsy of brain to check brain cells.
But when the patient is alive, the test by neurologists consists of studying the signs and symptoms of the individual to check for memory loss, changes in behavior.
Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease
The patients of Alzheimer’s need the help of a neurologist as well as a therapist. Both medication and therapy is required.
There are three drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. They are donepezil (Aricept), galantamine (Razadyne) and rivastigmine (Exelon). These are cholinesterase inhibitors commonly prescribed and they help to improve the various neuropsychiatric symptoms. The patients respond better to environment. They are commonly taken as tablets.
However the fact is no drug treatment is able to cure Alzheimer’s disease completely as it is a fatal disease. The drugs and therapies ensure the wellness of patients until they survive.
