Achieving My Work Ethic

Improved Essays
One reason I believe I should be granted this scholarship is that I have a strong work ethic. Part of my work ethic, is investing time and hard work to achieve success. For speech, I had to practice to see any improvement as the rules and style did not come very naturally to me. To improve my understanding of my category in speech I observed and studied others to see where I could improve. I read about public speaking and put a lot of thought into what it means to be a good public speaker. I asked questions, and persisted despite low performance scores at meets. Each year, I practiced more and more gradually I began to see noticeable improvement. As a result of my hard work and persistence, I eventually became a section finalist last year. …show more content…
As such, I try to take special care in how I treat others. For this reason, I do my best to encourage people especially when their morale is down and it seems they need it most. I have friends that get very anxious in school and with tests, so I try to help with a little bit of optimism and encouragement. In another example, there are people in my classes that are very quiet and rarely speak to others. Because I know that it can be hard to speak up, I always try to include them into conversations so they do not feel left out. In classes, sometimes I see peers struggle with understanding concepts or problems. So, to help them, I walk them through teaching them tricks I use and rewording it in a way they can understand. Afterwards, they feel a lot better about the topic, and I do too because I know they can further succeed. Because I want to help others as much as I can, I also am involved in many volunteer activities. I’ve helped in a senior living facility during the summer. I’ve also played in a small group orchestra during the holidays over the years for community events and for those in assisted living situations. I want to continue to be someone who continues to help others by encouraging, including, and thinking of others in everything I

Throughout my high school career, there were many times I collaborated with other students to execute a project. When working on these activities, there were individuals who had different approaches to how things should be done. Ultimately, the overall productivity of the group was determined by the work ethic of those within it. Work ethic is something that is molded during the early years in education, but now, in high school, a person’s principle on how work should be done are easily shown in how they interact in a group setting. Productivity is directly related to the work ethic of a person, and this is shown through the impulsive revolving doors, the apathetic automatic doors, and the meticulous screen doors.…

I believe that to be a Christian, one must be ready to make commitments and stay true to them. However, just as St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary use words," one must be apprehensive in their attitude towards their peers. Last summer, I had the privilege to work as a Catholic summer camp counselor.…

I have always felt the urge to help others, whether it is through community outreach activities or simply helping my peers learn a melody in my orchestra class. This is why when I was granted the opportunity to become a peer tutor and teacher's aide at my school starting my Junior year, I did not hesitate to take it. I tutor students in the resource program for one hour a day, during school, five days a week in multiple subjects including Math, History, and English. When I began tutoring, I had no idea to what extent this experience would change my outlook on my role as a tutor. For instance, one of the students I tutored was a boy named Oswaldo, who seemed to have given up on his education and did not even bother to turn his assignments in anymore.…

As we near the end of this spring semester, we should now take some and evaluate if any improvements were made between the first and second half of the semester, as well as some goals that you didn’t quite reach. Looking specifically at my participation for the last half of this class, I can definitely see the continuation of my responsibility and work ethic in how I completed my assignments and conduct myself that I exhibited in the first semester. However, I also have to admit to myself that I still could have done better in the areas that I said I was going to improve in within the last checklist paper. Based on this, as well as filling out the guidelines checklist and seeing where I fall in each category, I believe that I deserve twenty-three…
