The Evil of the Pearl The pearl brought an unbelievable amount of evil and tragedy to Kino, Juana and Coyotito. Coyotito was stung by a scorpion. Kino and Juana took him to the doctor in the rich part of town. The doctor refused to treat Coyotito due to the poverty of the family and the doctor believed their race to be animals. Kino, Juana, and Coyotito went pearl hunting after the doctor refused to treat Coyotito. The trouble all began when Kino found the pearl. Kino found the “Pearl of the World”. The news of the pearl traveled fast. When the priest of the church heard of the pearl, he thought of ways to get money for the church. The priest wondered if he had baptized the baby or married Kino and Juana. When the doctor heard of the pearl, …show more content…
Kino was very distraught that they would cheat him out of his fortune and decided that the next day they would travel to the capital. Kino and Juana went back to their house and Kino again hid the pearl. This time he hid the pearl in the fireplace. In the middle of the night Kino woke when he felt Juana get up from her sleeping mat. He saw her go to the fireplace and she dug up the pearl. She headed down to the beach and was going to throw the pearl back in the sea. She thought by throwing it back in the sea she would get her old life back. Kino followed her and before she had a chance to throw it in the sea he caught her hand. Kino grabbed the pearl from her and punched her in the face and kicked her in the side. Kino then started back up the path toward the brush house when he was attacked. Kino grabbed his knife and struck the attacker. He was then swept off his feet and somebody went through his pockets to find the pearl. The pearl flew out of his hand when he hit the ground. Juana came up the path and found Kino and the dead man. She found the pearl on the path and gave it back to Kino. Kino and Juana decided it was best if they leave and go somewhere else. Kino went to the canoe and Juana went to retrieve Coyotito from the brush house. Kino
