Three Personal Goals
This course helped in the understanding of research and how important it is to thoroughly examine the research article prior to utilizing it. The first goal was to be able to apply application to nursing practice. Application is defined as, “use a concept in a new situation or unprompted use of an abstraction. Applies what was learned in the classroom into novel situations in the workplace” (Randall, 2010). This goal was partially met. Research articles that were picked for thorough critiques were topics that I felt strongly about regarding my nursing practice. Although, there were strong feelings regarding this and articles were thoroughly studied, the use of these in nursing practice did not happen. …show more content…
Prior to this course, review of literature was not something that was read in-depth. Now, the review of literature is part of a research article that has become more important due to the foundation it builds for the study, as well as combining this with past research that has been done on the topic of study. “A thorough literature review provides a foundation on which to base new evidence” (Polit & Beck, 2017, p. 54). “For clinical problems, it may also be necessary to learn the ‘status quo’ of current procedures and to review existing practice guidelines” (Polit & Beck, 2017, p. 54). The review of literature helps to give a reader with little knowledge on the topic of study a more in-depth look at what is being studied and what is known about the study. Not only should we utilize other’s research, we should present research based on topics that are of great meaning to us. Being a graduate prepared nurse, one is given the opportunity to thoroughly study research as well as how to critique research, which is a valuable lesson. This should be used to its full extent by applying this to future careers and continuing to strengthen the knowledge of research through future
