The struggle for nurses to gain recognition for a well-developed theoretical framework in their practice has until this day been a difficult challenge. The article by McCrae (2012) stated many different factors that explain why or how the models of nursing fail to bridge the gap between theory and practice. This essay will describe some of those challenges.

The arguments about nursing models were the following. Nursing eludes definition; this meant that if the true meaning of nursing is yet to be identified how could there be a true nursing theory? Lack of prescription for practice; Nurses need to be knowledgeable in their work to be able to apply their theory in practice. We as professionals need to come together to find ways to not only find the problem, but also find ways to treat the causes, providing the patient with the most reliable testable methods. The point is providing the best care to the patients. I think patients have better outcomes with the use of theory. Theory helps nurses have a better understanding when it comes to caring, sympathy or support. Theory also enhances existing science by supporting reliable knowledge. Physicians should give credit to nurses for their immense valuable contributions on theory, without all their work, physician’s would not have a solid foundation for scientific research. In the same note, with out science-based evidence, nurses would not have knowledge of what is known to be effective with patient care. Both theory and practice should mutually collaborate to extend the knowledge of theory and science for continuing students and or professionals. In my opinion these are all reliable factors to help bridge the gap between theory and
