I chose to do my observation during one of my shifts at work in a child care center. More specifically, it was in a transition classroom for children of ages two to three. The indoor classroom was brightly lit with furniture such as tables, a carpet play area, couches, and different toys meant for different sections of the room. The atmosphere was comfortable and not quiet or loud with children participating in activities at a neutral volume. It was play time right before lunch time and the children were participating in different activities throughout the room either alone or with other children. Some children were building and connecting magnets, playing dress up, climbing a wooden ladder attached to the wall, or reading a book.

This is because he was not cooperating with other children or the teacher and would talk and yell back to her in anger and frustration. His temperament requires additional work and “more direction and firmer boundaries” from the caregiver (Newton, 2008, p. 31). The teacher who has a weak relationship with the child may have a harder time guiding and teaching the child than someone whom the child has a strong and secure attachment to. These behaviors are mainly due to the way they were raised and quality and consistency of care they receive at home or school. Intimacy and sensitivity to a child are vital for a parent or caregiver to develop a secure attachment to the child because it influences various aspects of the child’s development. I plan on working in a child center in the future where I would be able to work with various families and their children. As a teacher, it is one’s responsibility to be able to interact with children and understand what additional factors are in the child’s life before coming to a conclusion or judgement about their behavior. I believe this will help me in becoming more understanding of the children I will work with. I will be more aware of how I react and respond to their needs so that I will be able to develop a strong relationship with them and be more attuned to their
