This flood has many stories from different parts of the world. Here is an example from Gilgamesh, “When the seventh day dawned the storm from the south subsided, the sea grew calm, the flood was stilled…” Then there is the story of Noah’s ark. Another reason for empires to be formed is migration. People left because of the drought, disrupted urban societies, and destroyed the administrative centers of Kings, Priests, and Dynasties. Egypt got a lot of new things in their empire from migration. New vegetables and fruit grew along the Nile river. They now had humped zebu cattle living there. Their armies got upgrades from migration. They now had horses and chariots, composite bows, and scimitars. The Neo-Assyrians got different types of people in their empire. Each of them had a different type of job. Medes were king’s bodyguards, Israelites supplied chariots, and Phoenicians provided ships and sailors. New technologies helped create empires. Pack camels came out to travel across land. They were perfect for traveling because they didn’t need as much water as horses. Seaworthy vessels started coming out so they can travel across larger bodies of water. This was the time of the “Iron Age”. Iron at the time was the more difficult to form.
