I am a sophomore who has learned a lot of useful knowledge and loves my life in UC Davis. Yet, I am writing to point out problems with the quarter system. Similarl to many aggies, in my first college year, I had a hard time adapting to the university life because of the quarter system. To succeed in university, every UC student must spend a lot of time adapting this depressive and painful system. However, after acclimating this schedule, students still need to bear massive stress and many inconveniences that are brought by quarter system and may influence their moods and health states. UC students have many exams in a ten-week quarter so they are really stressed and may have bad performances in exams. T. Anne Hawkins (2000) said that half of college students have test anxiety. Superabundant academic stress may cause a large number of crucial problems in different areas of health, such as hypo immunity and memory deterioration. Assume that I take four classes in which three have two midterms and one has three midterms in a typical quarter. I will have thirteen exams in just ten weeks. In the second week, I need to start preparing for the midterm I that will begin in the third week and end in fourth. After getting scores of midterm I, I have no time to rest and should learn and review for the midterm II that will begin in the seventh week and end in the eighth.
