How much architecture should be included in a museum? That is a question that not many visitors ask about a museum, however as an architect or designer it is a fundamental question to ask one’s self when it comes to describing a museum. It can become a debate, deciding whether the museum should or should not be a simple massing where art is displayed. If the answer is it should, then why not just design a white box where all the attention goes into the art on the inside? When it comes to museums, we think of a place where we can look back in time and experience the art that was once created by an amazing artist. If a museum is where fantastic artwork is located, then why not allow the architecture of that building to express its artistic side as well? The structure of a building may strike curiosity therefore, attracts more people and thus creates more attention towards the building. Museums have been around for many years, but around 1990 is when architecture started playing a…
Whitney Museum? Was the first thought in my head when I first heard about the extra credit opportunity announced in class. When I was a child, I thought it was a Museum pertaining to Whitney Houston, but that was not the case. I heard people talk about it, but I could never pinpoint where it was. It was not until last week that I would have the opportunity to enter the Museum for $1. Going to the Whitney Museum last week, has sparked an interest in going to Museums and I am glad that I went.…
In New York museums are buildings whose histories are tied into the fabric of the city. While some buildings of a different program might slide under the radar, a new museum could not be commissioned in the city without fanfare or skepticism or protest. The controversy can be credited to the fact that even in our contemporary time critics, architects, artists, and the sponsoring agents, and even the public all have different expectations on what a museum should be. It has been a challenge to…

ethnicities crowding the lobby, I became extremely excited in anticipation to see all the prestigious art displayed here. While I am here for a class assignment, I am still fascinated with the hundreds of other displays by world-renowned artist. I approach her and ask “Mam, where can I find…
