While doing so, he leaves the story up for interpretation, beginning with the title “Little Things.” The word ‘little’ is used in the story as well, suggesting that the home was too small for all of them. This gives a sense that the relationship is coming to an end and there is no room to grow. I feel that the child can be seen more as a symbol than a human, but either way, the child and relationship suffers in the end due to the selfishness of the parents. The couple fights over the child more like a possession than a human being resulting in the child and their relationship being broken and not able to be fixed. Carver uses simple words and big actions to tell this story from the very beginning. He depicts a marital couple where separation, conflict, struggle and lack of communication are taking over their emotions, and leaving them with nothing but silence and anger. This is why I conclude that “the issue was decided” before it…

‘big fancy words’ rather he chooses to go with an easy to read vocabulary. This makes it easy for us to understand things that take place in the story. For instance, on the handout in class Carver writes “Son of a bitch! I’m so glad you’re leaving!” it’s pretty clear what Carver tries to convey. In this example, we clearly understand that the mother is unhappy with the husband, and appears to even hate him, given her choice of words. Nothing fancy, just simple, straight, and to the point.…

The story mentions "Light" quite a few times and progressively gets darker as the story goes on. The use of light indicates and describes how the couple’s relationship is going from the beginning to the end of it. In the beginning, it says, “Early that day weather turned.” (Carver) Being early in the day, theat is an indication that there is light outside. The next line claims," it was getting dark on the inside too." (Carver) This could be symbolism for the couple and how they are feeling…

The first Gobble As I wake up, I'm annoyed by the alarm I hear. Then I look at my phone to see why I'm waking up at 4:30 and instantly I'm up and awake. It's finally turkey season! I grab everything I see out the night before, the decoys, calls, food, water, and of course the shotgun. At about 4:35 I'm out of the house and walking through the field. All that can be seen by me, is an ocean of hay and I hope I'm walking to the right place, because I cannot even make out the treeline. Soon enough…

called” as a specific individual’s direct revelation from God of their future occupation. This is, however, simply incorrect. Contrary to popular belief, everyone is called. Every single one of us has received a charge from God, that may or may not be specific. According to Jeff Maness, author of Because You’re Called, we tend to foolishly concern ourselves only with God’s calling for our entire life, rather than recognizing that God has a daily calling for our lives, through which our life’s…

The beginning statement said this is David’s Psalm as he is running from his son Absalom. I can’t imagine the pain and hurt David must be feeling. His own son is trying to find him and take over his kingdom and even kill him. I’m sure God has similar feelings when we his children run from him and try to place ourselves in a position that is “higher” than the Lord Almighty. It’s a hard prayer for David to ask the LORD to take care of the wickedness (his on son) that is seeking after him. I’m not…
