The Rice Gallery museum will display 'Intersections', a sculptural installation designed by Anila Quayyum Agha until Dec. 6. It effectively manipulates the gallery space, engages the visitors and provides a window into the mind of the artist. The painted Geometric Dipylon krater is a giant goblet like vessel, from 740 B.C.E in Athens. It is about three feet and four inches tall and consists of black figures, animals and symbols painted onto a paler ceramic background. The base and stem of the krater have alternating thick black stripes and zig-zagged patterns, extending about a third of the way up the cup. to the late Archaic period or to the Early Classical period, however the Kritios Boy displays many Early Classical attributes that seem to confirm it as Early Classical. The Kritios Boy has a more relaxed and comfortable stance, whereas Archaic sculptures were known to be more rigid and severe. The most important feature is the pose of the Kritios Boy. Clever TITLE here The Octavia Art Gallery currently exhibits two artists: Regina Scully and Iva Gueorguieva. Regina Scully’s works consisted of acrylics of an abstract nature. The use of various vibrant colours in her works, as well as their abstract and subjective essence, made them fascinating to behold. Her work reminded me of Kandinsky’s. I found my visit to the Tampa Museum of Art to be enjoyable. I really enjoyed seeing older pieces of art like the red and black figure vases and greco-roman statues. I loved the few ancient marble pieces they did have and I wish there were more of them. I do however wish the museum’s collection was larger and I was surprised when I came into to the last section of the museum to realize that it was the last room.
