    Wade Hampton III was a man of great stature, born on March 28, 1818 in Charleston, South Carolina to one of the most influential families amongst the Southern States. Hampton grew up on a booming plantation that was kept up by many slaves and servants. He attended school at South Carolina College, now know as the University of South Carolina and graduated from there. He studies law for two years before he had to come home to take care i. In 1838, Hampton married a woman by the name of Margaret Preston; who also happened to be the niece of Senator William C. Preston.Wade and Margaret would have five children together prior to her death in 1852. After his wife 's death, he decided to try and make a career in Politics.
