all of the chaos actually forms into something beautiful. Much like the somewhat random nature of this novels events that come together to form a full story. Kristina explains his writing style by saying “This “rings a bell” feeling plays a large role in creating the ever-connected history (though more so one man’s take than an “entire history of the world”) Sebald constructs from many smaller stories – a galaxy made up of many stars” (Ten, 2011). She is suggesting that his writing style is focused on the little details that add together to form the big picture. The reader doesn’t understand that until they progress further in to the novel, because all of the stories he tells are some how related to one another you begin to notice the reoccurring messages. The reoccurring themes in this specific piece by Sebald seem to be same throughout this text, death and decay. Sebald makes his view of the world very clear, and that is everything has an expiration date. Within the first few lines of this book we are introduced to Sebald as he tells us about the death of his friend, but it doesn’t end there. It seems to me that Sebald is almost taken over by this outlook. He tells us about a philosopher Thomas Browne whose views were much like Sebald’s and a quote that stuck out to me was “To him it seems a miracle that we should last so much as a single day.
