You know me as a raisin, but this is not who I have always been. I was born quite some time ago as a red seedless grape. Like so many other grapes, my home was California. I grew on a vine in the San Joaquin Valley. When I was ripe, I was among many grapes chosen to become raisins. A man took us from the vine and gently washed and dried us. Then, we were placed on a huge paper tray and spread out so we were not touching each another. This would allow us to dry better. Another person took us outside, covered us with a dry cloth, and lay us on a huge table. I rested outside and enjoyed the warm sun. During this time, I changed quite a bit. I felt the water slowly drain out of me. My plump body shrank, and my smooth outer skin became wrinkled.…
