    Dashain is one of the greatest festivals of Nepal. It is based on the lunar calendar and falls in the months of September or October. Dashain is the longest and the most auspicious festival in the Nepalese annual calendar which is observed for 15 days from the new moon day called Ghatasthapan to the full moon day called Kojagrat Purnima. Among these fifteen days, the most important days of the celebration are the first, seventh, eighth, ninth and the tenth days. It is the longest as well as a most anticipated festival of the country. It is the festival of great delight, enthusiasm, and rapture. It is also known as Bada Dasain and Vijaya Dashami. This festival is also referred to its emphasis on the gathering of the family. People return their home from different parts of the country or the world, to celebrate together. During the Dashain the weather is fair and mild, the sky is mostly clear. Farmers are also relief from their busy season of plantations and weddings. All government offices, schools, colleges, factories, and other offices remain closed. The weather is very fair and pleasant, ripening and rustling crops. Kids are busy flying kites. The adults are busy, patching and cleaning roads, renovating and painting their houses, temples, public places and other infrastructures. People start traveling to their parents and grandparents.
