Is There Rigid Structure To The Laments of Psalms? "Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever! Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?" (Psalms 44:23-24 ESV). If many of us have been taught by our parents to put on a happy face, to let a smile be our umbrella, or to keep our complaints to ourselves, then the Old Testament offers a corrective to these teachings in the Psalms of lament. Matthew Schlimm believes that we sometimes forget that the Lord already knows our innermost thoughts. So we can remove that fake smile and express the sadness directly to God, no matter how intense the emotions may be.3 Some modern resources on worship, general describe the readings from Psalms as responses to the Old Testament lesson, which suggests for some part that the Book of Psalms is something other than scripture itself. However this view changed when Martin Luther calls the Book of Psalms “A Little Bible,” because it was a great resource to see God’s will for the world and His children. With such a great claim placed upon the Book of Psalms one needs to understand the most numerous and common genre of writing present in the book of Psalms is Laments.2 The genre of Laments are a common theme found in the Old Testament, and the individual psalm of lament are the largest category of the Book of Psalms. The Psalms of lament make up almost a third of all the Psalms. It’s worth noting that the book of Psalms…

Ironically, many of my critiques of faith were far harsher than that, but they were generally well-reasoned—and he was always fine with that. John always understood my reasons for rejecting faith and the existence of God and often even agreed with them at some level—but he never turned from faith itself. Over these past few decades, both of us have evolved substantially in our views. During my visit at the Abbey…

They giggled hysterically before redeeming themselves and ushering us to the door. I grabbed my phone, and wallet, and headed out with them. We looked like vintage models from the old days, sauntering down the street with class. I balanced on my heels next to Vesper as we followed behind the couple. They hadn't told us where we were going. We arrived at a strip club. With the approval from security bouncer they were on good terms with, we were all let in. Although, I was the only one who needed…

Christmas Vespors The Christmas Vespers was based on the nine lessons which were Christmas carols. It also included reading from the scripture. The main idea of the Christmas Vespers was to embrace the birth of Jesus and the fall of man kind. Instead of just telling the story through the scripture music was added appositely to the nine readings. This rendition of the Christmas Vespers was exceptionally enjoyable. The show opened up with the Adam giving into the temptation to Eve and the apple.…

as high as you can imagine, Spectre drops the bar completely to ground level. Instead of attempting to inject a fresh new adventure for Bond to tackle after the extremely personal character experiences in Skyfall, Spectre attempts to make things even more emotionally charged. Regrettably, Spectre spends its lengthy runtime (roughly two and a half hours) piggy-backing off the events of Casino Royal, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall. That’s right, apparently one man – Christop Waltz’s character –…

The selfish character is quite dangerous especially for Bond, who has fallen in love. It may not be possible for him to give out the best to what Vesper wants since he will first start by thinking about himself, and the things that he will do to make him happy. It can be one of the reasons as to why he is afraid of Vesper. He might think that by falling for Vesper’s ideas, he would have denied himself some freedom. The concept of self-centeredness is something that is crucial to him, and it has…
