alleviate the oxidative damage leading to improvements in physiological attributes for the plant growth under salinity. Key words: Canola, inorganic nutrients, Nitrose oxide, proline, salinity, Zea mays Introduction Vegetable oils are, and have been an important component of the human diet for a long time. Nowadays, the four major vegetable-oil producing crops (oil-palm, soybean, rapeseed and sunflower, respectively) cover about 270 million hectares, with a production of 170 million tons, and accounting for approximately 75% of the world total production (FAO, 2013). In general, Egypt 's production of vegetable oils, covers only a small portion of its current demand. According to Hassan and Shafique (2011), Egypt’s self-sufficiency of vegetable oil declined from 95 % in early 1960’s, to less than 30 % in 2004, leading to increase the importation of processed vegetable oil and semi-processed oil-seeds. In 2011, Egypt spent about 1.875 billion US dollars on importation of vegetable oils combined (FAOSTAT: Egypt. 2011). The United States Department of Agriculture, division of Foreign Agriculture Service (USDA-FAS), reported in 2013-2014 that Egypt’s total oilseeds planted area only covers 3-5% of Egypt’s total edible oil consumption. Expanding into edible-vegetable oil production in Egypt is limited due to limitation of agricultural land and water supplies. Out of about 3.7 million hectares available for food production, it is estimated that 3.2 million hectares are dedicated…

During this lab, I compared the properties of both regular and light margarine, before and after melting. First, we took both of the margarine samples and put them in a hot water bath to melt them. This separated out the components within them- making it easy to measure their percentage value. I found the regular margarine to be made up of 14.5% solids, 64.2% oils, and 21.3% water. Next, I used the same method as before, and found the percentage of each component of the light margarine to…
