    types gods. The eighth world is the world of Vanaheim, the homeworld of the Vanir gods. The Vanir gods were gods of Nature, and at first were not friends with the other gods. The final world was the world of Asgard, the homeworld of the Aesir gods. The Aesir gods were all progeny of Odin, and after living in peace with the Vanir for a while, they decided to war with them. After many years of fighting and bloodshed, both sides became weary and they decided to become friends. Because of the end of the war, the Vanir god Njord, ruler of the wind and the seas, moved in to Asgard. His son Frey, who ruled the rain and sunshine, moved with him. (Treasury of Norse Mythology, by Donna Jo Napoli) There are many gods mentioned in the book, and it would take too much time to mention them all in detail. Alphabetically, the first god is Balder. He was the son of Odin and Frigg and was the most gentle and beautiful of all the gods. The next is the god Bor. He was the son of Buri and had three sons: Odin, Ve, and Vili. Next is Bragi. he was one of Odin’s sons and was the god of poetry, as well as the husband of Idun. After him is the god Buri, who was the first god, licked out of the ice block by the ice cow. Another is the goddess Fjorgyn, who was an Earth goddess as well as the mother of Thor. The god Frey was one of the Vanir, the son of Njord and the god of rain and harvests. The goddess Freya was another Vanir, also a child of Njord. She drove a chariot pulled by cats and had a magic…
