    Public Art Analysis

Our purposed public artwork location was decided on to be located in front of the Rogue Ales Gallery and Restaurant in the Bay front area of Newport, Oregon. Our artwork will be a sculpture in the round, giant beer mug that says “Oregon Micro Brews,” in moss, on the mug. The mug itself will be made out of concrete to utilize the porosity of the medium. The artwork will be sitting on a pedestal of sorts with a plaque that lists all the microbreweries in Oregon. The function of the piece is to bring awareness, respect, and regional pride in what Oregonians have accomplished; Having more microbreweries, per capita, then any other state. The artwork will also recognize the talent, art, time, and creativeness that goes into making microbrews for the world to enjoy. The process morphed from one idea to the next over the first couple of sit down conversations about what we would chose to create, how it would look, what we would use to get the look we where going for, where the artwork would be located, why, and who essentially would it be for. We started with the idea that we wanted to recognize some group from the Pacific Northwest, since this is the greatest area on earth! We all agreed that the coast would be the perfect location, after numerous other locals where dismissed. I suggested to the group that we should use moss in the artwork (I have a new found love for the stuff after learning how amazing it is in my Ecology class). Then it was suggested that the medium should be…

Instead of repairing the damaged line, Southern Pacific asked for abandonment of the line at the same time mass transit planning studies were occurring in San Diego.
