10 minutes to 11am when I reached I-81. 77 follows 81 west for a few miles then turns north into West Virginia. Surprised that I-81 was in good shape, considering the weather. Proceeding cautiously, due to the obvious black ice on the roadway. I turned north following I-77 further into West Virginia. I needed gas now, before going any further. I took the Princeton West Virginia exit. At the bottom of the exit was a semblance of a highway. Didn’t look like anybody had turned left from that point. I was not going to take a chance, there might be a median there. I turned right. I could see faint headlights going in the opposite direction. Startled by the sound of a loud air horn. I looked, seeing what looked like an airplane landing behind me. Moving to the right as far as I could, not slowing down. I felt the rumble of whatever was back there. I braced for impact. Let me tell you something. If you ever find yourself in West Virginia, fogged in, with almost zero visibility and snowing. Please, have enough sense to bring a change of underwear. I’m glad I did! I shit my pants,…

cleaning my “biohazard of a messy room” but I decided against it. I then realized that I wanted to go on a bike ride, but before that, I would need to do a load of laundry. I put it in the clothes, turned the machine on, and left it running. I closed the doors leading to the kitchen, as well as the hallway, wanting to turn on the air conditioning. Since our air conditioning unit was a window one and at least 10 years old it only worked in one room, which we designated as the living…

One of the issues we had was trying to assemble our rover. In some of our original designs, the canister of weights was always off of the rubber band, which made it harder to move. Secondly, we had issues trying to turn it. After finding a way to attach the canister to the rubber band, we had no clue how to turn the rubber band. Our first idea was to turn the hooks, but this became difficult to do. Eventually, we found out we didn’t hold anything on the sides and turn it towards you. One…

"Ring!" sounded the final bell on a Friday afternoon at school. Students sprinted out of class to get to their cars trying to beat the rush of traffic; I was one of them. I stopped by my locker to grab all of my books and then hurried out to my shiny gold Toyota Camry. I quickly put my key into the ignition and backed out of my parking spot. I stepped on the gas pedal to beat all of the idiot drivers that don 't know how to wait their turn. Once at the stoplight, I took a sharp right turn…

When a main character of a story is confident the reader expects just that, confidence, cool under pressure, ready to take on a challenge. But the main character, Connie, in “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” exhibits much less of a confident role in the story as the pages turn. Connie’s character is an example of a person who flaunts false confidence in any reasonably comfortable situation, only to drop it all in the face of danger. Connie is not what you would expect from a major…
