different concentration gradients affect the rate of diffusion. Three different concentrations of salt solution will be used to demonstrate the different concentration gradients. Predicted outcomes, along with the conclusions, of the experiment will be recorded in Data Table 1. Begin by making up the salt solutions needed for the experiment. To make a 1% salt solution, 1 gram of salt is needed per each 100 ml of DI water. Make certain that the analytical scale is properly zeroed before placing a weigh boat on top of the scale. Now measure out 1 gram of salt into the weigh boat. Pour the salt into the 150ml beaker and fill the beaker to the 100ml line with DI water. Take the stirring rod and stir the solution until all of the salt is dissolved. Carefully pour the solution into the first test tube. Label the test tube as 1% and place it back into the test tube rack. The process will be repeated to prepare the 5% and 10% solutions; however, the amounts of ingredients will change. Make sure to thoroughly clean the beaker and stirring rod after each solution is made. To obtain a 5% salt solution, 15 grams of salt will be needed, and to attain a 10% salt solution, 10 grams will be needed. Repeat the aforementioned process to create the 5% and 10% salt solutions. Placing each into their own individual test tube and labeling each appropriately. Now that the salt solutions are complete it is time to construct the test bags for the experiment. It is recommended to…

Paragraph 1 The research done by Haines on how the atomic structure of FePO4 varies when temperature increases from 294K to 1073 shows few crystal chemical relationships between SiO2 and FePO4. There is a first order variation of cell parameters and atomic orientations with temperatures lower than 980K and α-phase plays a dominant role over β-phase at high temperature. For the α-phase FePO4, the cell parameters increase with a non-linear trend when temperature increases linearly. The volume…

During the extraction process, the sand bath was set to 20℃. The 1.00 gram of ground nutmeg was transferred to the round-bottom flask (RBF) using the plastic funnel. Three milliliter of tert-butyl methyl ether and two or three boiling chips were added into the flask. The black plastic connector was used just like the distillation column with air condenser set-up. The flask was clamped to the ring stand using 3-pronged clamp. The flask was lowered into a slightly depression in the sand without…

The melting point of a substance is best described as the temperature at which a solid becomes a liquid (Bruice 2014). On the molecular level, when a compound melts the forces between the molecules become weaker. This is because when a substances heats up the kinetic energy between the molecules increase causing the molecules to vibrate. When the vibrations become strong enough for the molecules to move around and pass other molecules, the compound that is being heated up starts to melt and…

Spolia refers to the repurpose, or reuse of structural or decorative components from one piece, to another. Spolia, or “the spoils of war” is seen on a lot of different artworks, or monumental constructions. Like many roman constructions like the coliseum, the arch of Constantine doesn’t go unnoticed for its use of repurposed material. The use of spolia has many advantages that were very meaningful in the time of the Roman Empire. Recycling older material is a lot more cost effective than…

After the extraction, recrystallization, and determination of melting points for the unknown compound #4 were performed, and observations were noted, the results were obtained. The two compounds yielded were 4-tert-butyl phenol and triphenylamine. The masses obtained of each compound were 0.071g and 0.298g. The melting point ranges obtained are as follows; for the first the solid started to melt at 94 ˚C and was completely melted at 98˚C, and for the second the solid started to melt at 115 ˚C…

Diecast vehicles are made when manufacturers pour molten metals into a steel mold. Afterwards, they get decorated with plastic, rubber, other metal and glass. Before you purchase a diecast vehicle, first decide if you want a modern or vintage Honda diecast. Collectors normally hunt for the vintage pieces while children like the modern diecast models. That, however, is not always the case, and sometimes people collect all forms of diecast models. The diecast vehicles made after 1970 were…

rate of freezing so that melting would be faster. Adding more particles into the ice water will make greater freezing point depression the lowest salt solution would be negative 21 degrees Celsius. Ice cream forms when you make it at home because salt would lower the freezing point making the ice cream colder. Ice cream is made with ice, fat, sweeteners, air, and other solids. Making ice cream is a science because it deals with chemistry. "Ice crystals determine how fine, grainy, the ice cream…
