Unbroken is an inspiring story about a former Olympian, Louis Zamperini, who was enlisted in the United States Air Force during WWII. His plane crashed and he floated on the raft for 47 days until he was captured, along with his crew member Phil, and taken to a POW camp. By a miracle, the two lived to tell their inspiring story to the world. The novel Unbroken and the movie depict the same tragic story, however, scenes are portrayed in various ways. Although unquestionably similar, author Hillenbrand went into more depth about Louie’s running career/life before the war and did not show all of the struggles they had to endure to survive on the raft. The movie did not reveal that Louie had to physically battle the sharks when he hid under the raft from the firing plane. However, the novel went into immense detail about how Louie had to remain calm and strike the shark in the nose. This detail added to the suspense, and it showed just how resilient and fearless Louie was. Likewise, the movie left out how much the men struggled with catching fish. In the novel, the shark repeatedly ate the bait before they could catch fish. The men started to wonder if they would ever successfully catch fish. After trying various methods such as trying bait, minuscule and large hooks, and finally fastening the hooks to his fingers to make claws. This showcased Louie’s ability to be innovative and persevere through hardship. Moreover, the movie removed major events in Louie’s running career such…

The symbols employed by King in relation to Poe’s literary work of 1842 were the coloring of the black and red, western-most room, signifying death (in King’s work, the western trek to the formidable Overlook Hotel was an invitation of death to the Torrance family); the avoidance of death in the case of both Poe’s party-goers and King’s Danny and Wendy Torrance; the respective clocks striking midnight, and the mortal significance of this. The presence and influence of religion is also clear in…

The novel ended in fire, but the movie ended in ice. One of the better known symbols in The Shining novel is the boiler that Jack Torrance has to keep cooled down to prevent it from exploding.
