Salsa Brava? More like Salsa Disappointing. Located just off of quiet Route 66 in Flagstaff, Arizona is a Mexican restaurant the whole family can partake in. And, no, it is not Taco Bell. No, it is not Chipotle Mexican Grill, either. This restaurant is Salsa Brava and it makes customers wish they were at Taco Bell or Chipotle because at least those places will leave their clients plenty satisfied. However, Salsa Brava does have its own delicious spin on classic Mexican dishes, such as their shrimp tacos priced at $10.99 and quesadillas for $10.50. Be careful, though, because this eatery is very easy to miss while driving. One can only wonder how Guy Fieri was able to make it in time to film Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. What do you mean you drove right past it? That is alright, since the first time I went there with my family, my father drove right by it, even with his eagle eyes. Salsa Brava may look like a typical house at first glance, but take another look. Even though there is a sign and “Salsa Brava” is written in large red letters on the side of the building it is still difficult to notice, considering how well it blends in with its surroundings. Once people find the place, they can just walk in, sit down, and order, right? Wrong. Although the owner of Salsa Brava provides a gracious amount of parking, it is still not enough. Somehow, a parking spot is found and the people walk to the front door, but, surprise, one of the doors just will not budge! They then…
Tomatillo The main competitor to Chipotle is Tomatillo. Tomatillo is a Mexican restaurant that provides a vast array of Mexican dishes such as quesadillas, burritos, tacos, tortillas. Tomatillo has 8 locations in major spots in Seoul and its locations are very close to the Itaewon Subway Station. The restaurant is known by its attractive and colorful interior. The restaurant’s menu is not huge, but it comes with a feature that allows customers to customize their own dishes. In addition, the…
Fajitas are a favorite around the world. Many people order fajitas at their favorite Mexican food restaurant. However you may be surprised to find out that they are not a traditional Mexican food. In Spanish the word fajita translates to English as "belt" or "girdle" I I can't think of any Hispanic people making themselves belts or girdles for dinner. My own such family would be insulted that one would assume this is truly an authentic dish. Never the less they are continually sold at many…
smooth, consistent texture. You want it to coat the meat evenly and cling to its surface. To preserve the consistency, powdered spices are typically used. When making your own barbecue sauce, consider jalapeno powder as a way to gently increase spiciness and add a strong pepper flavor. It will pair well with the sweetness without affecting the texture. Use it to Make Chili Powder Chile powder typically consists of a powdered chile pepper (usually ancho chile) along with cumin, garlic and…
Ever wonder what happiness tastes like? It’s a sensation that invigorates liveliness of the body, mind, and spirit. Happiness comes in many forms. It’s sweet and savory, hot and cold, food and drink. One of the many places to indulge in glorious scrumptious happiness rests off the corner of Wall St. in a little place north of San Diego called Puesto. Walking the beautiful boardwalk of La Jolla will work up any appetite and while you’ll have to resist the many seaside restaurants with…

factor it provides, but chiles in Mexican food is used also for the flavor and texture. This is why there are various types of chiles used for different dishes, with each of the different type of chile serving a different culinary purpose. There are different flavors of chile, which ranges from the sweetness provided by bell peppers to ensure a chile taste without the heat to the habanero chile, which all but guarantees that the consumer will be in for a rude awakening if they are not prepared…
memories with my family and friends. Enchiladas Suizas are tortillas with chicken in the middle rolled into a cylinder shape with green salsa drizzled on them with melted cheese on top. The rolled up tortillas are not drenched in salsa they are just completely covered in salsa to perfection. The melted cheese smoothly covers the tortillas. The colors that make up the dish are a pale tan because of the tortillas, the white because of the chicken and cheese, and the light green from the salsa.…

a unique multicultural community. The annual Fourth of July celebration is accompanied by mariachis and Baile folklórico, Mexican folk dancers, almost every birthday party here has a piñata followed by a rapid frenzy to pick up the falling candy, and Buenos días (good morning) is a common greeting. Mexican culture is a fundamental part of El Paso life and it has seamlessly blended with Texan and New Mexican cultures. An underlying acceptance and openness makes this cooperation possible. Living…
