About Tithing? We have been taught that we are to give ten percent of our gross wages to the church, and that this idea, called tithing, is something that God requires and will bless us for if we do it. An article from PimpPreacher takes on the five most common arguments for tithing and the truth behind them. Argument: Abraham paid a 10 percent tithe to God and he was blessed because of it. If we are children of Abraham and want to be blessed like him, then we should tithe the same way he did. The story of Abraham's tithing is found in Genesis, chapter 14. Counter: Abraham was blessed before he tithed. He already had a covenant with God and was tremendously blessed. There was never anything said to Abraham asking him to tithe, no suggestion that he could be blessed more if he did, etc. The story of the tithe comes from Abraham going to battle to retrieve his captured nephew, Lot. He was victorious and slew all his enemies. Suddenly, a priest named Melchizedek shows up and Abraham decides to give 10 percent of his war spoils to this priest. He did not give from his personal possessions, he did not become blessed because of his tithe – he was already…

story takes place in the lives of three teenagers, Connor, Risa and Lev, who are all scheduled to be unwound at the same time. This essay will be about Lev and how he was raised as a “tithe” just to be unwound. In the first part of the story (Triplicate), Lev reflects on being a tithe and his family’s expectations of him “Being a tithe has always been a part of his life. His parents have spoken of it since he was a child, though back then he didn’t understand what they meant.” This tells us that…

I believe the purpose of Jeff Anderson writing Plastic Donuts is to help modern Christians rethink how to tithe. Some people today tithing is only an old testament thing and does not need to be done now or some people think the rule is only ten percent of your income. Jeff helps us rethink this by teaching us 4 basic principles. The first principle is that the amount matters. This is important because if we give an amount that is small and does not matter to us then it will not matter to God.…

buys and not willing to watch out for who needs encouragement. But it is vital to the growth of the church to give time to those who need someone to listen to how they are hurting. A second verse that Paul writes on encouragement can also be found in I Thessalonians, “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all” (5:14 NKJV). A more materialistic way to give is tithe. Christians are to tithe based upon their income for…

UnWholly, the second book in the Unwind series, picks back up where the first book had left it. This book starts off with the introduction of new characters. Miracolina, a tithe, is the first new character. She was to be tithed because her parents had promised God that if their son had lived, they would sacrifice their daughter. The bus of tithes had brought in another character, Timothy. The bus had been ambushed and the children on the bus had been "rescued" by Lev, an AWOL from the first…

reason of asking this question. Block has great strengths in the question but, a weakness is the term he uses “blended” and “distributive” in worship. The congregation is just that, the believers in Christ Jesus and to define the unity as a word versus a unity in God gives many believers a reason to separate ourselves from one and another. Chapter 10 Block goes over sacrifice and offerings as worship. He compares tithes and offerings to Deuteronomy when Moses gives many examples of when and…
