Strengths Ownerships/Partnerships One of the main key strengths that Zenda Farms contains is their relationship with the Thousand Island Land Trust (TILT). TILT acquired Zenda Farms through the MacFarlane gift in 1997. Ever since then, TILT has dedicated itself to preserving the local wildlife, as well as Zenda’s own buildings and infrastructure. TILT manages over 7,000 acres of land in the surrounding region and has much knowledge about land conservation, and land practices, so they are a powerful support tool for Zenda Farms. TILT even helped Zenda Farms get U.S. grant support, in addition to adding to the Zenda Farms’ land trust. Zenda Farms is currently in a mutualistic relationship with SUNY ESF, who specializes in environmental…
When the Charlie Hebdo attack happened, people were shocked and angered by the actions of the shooters, though, to the shooters, the acts they committed were just. In Island of a Thousand Mirrors by Nayomi Munaweera, when Saraswathi bombed the bus, she did it to find justice for herself. To those who are negatively affected by it, suicide bombings and mass killings are never justifiable. People have their own idea of what is right or wrong and once a person has made up their mind, it’s hard to…
Island of a Thousand Mirrors One of the key transitions that drove Saraswathi’s transformation was the loss of her family at the age of sixteen. Amma, her mother, explains, “You have to go from here, my daughter. We can’t keep you with us anymore. You must go to the training camp. Learn to fight. Become a hero” (159). Saraswathi’s environment changed as she was forced to become a Tiger soldier. As Saraswathi loses her parents, she no longer has a role model to look up to. Being young and…

The world is a transcendent place, it is diverse, unique, and seemingly unreplicatable, but, in William Golding's Lord of the Flies the world is replicated. The small island on which a large group of English schoolboys become stranded after a mysterious plane crash is a perfect example of a microcosm, a little world. As the story progresses the boys become representations of humanity’s strongest and weakest aspects. Some will mirror leaders while others will take a more submissive role in the…
In the South Pacific Ocean, about 1,300 miles north of New Zealand, there is a country that is made of 300 islands and 540 islets. These islands combined form the republic of Fiji. Out of all 300 islands, only about 150 are inhabited by humans. The largest island is Viti Levu, also known as Great Fiji, and the capital is Suva. Fiji is a democratic country, with the government system set up very similar to the United States. Sports are also popular in Fiji, such as rugby and soccer. My goal…

Many world leaders throughout history have attempted to compose the great society, or as they believed, utopia. On these occurrences, they in some way try to subdue the creative and free thinking side of human nature. In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Mustapha Mond achieves universal stability. As we see in the New World society, stability is made the first priority at the expense of most of the people 's intrinsic human faculties. Mond explains eloquently and quite persuasively to John and…
