value. Patrick catches onto her motivation but unfortunately can only echo her concerns as true. He too feels pointless in it all. What can Patrick do to change the nature of their limbo? He knows the solution is beyond his powers. Marina hums the tune once more. It’s a tune that requires Patrick to answer. Patrick has a eureka moment! He expands upon his thoughts in song however to himself. The song turns into a plot device explaining a series of transporter modifications he could employ to extend the lives of the crew allowing them to finish the heroic journey to Andromeda. In effect, they would be the same people but their purpose as stepping stones could be altered to enact those of the explorers meant to finish their journey. By extending life five thousand years and becoming the generation to hit Andromeda Patrick would infuse historical purpose into the work Marina, the crew and he does. Unfortunately, or perhaps, fortunately, considering the long journey ahead their memories would be wiped each transporter iteration. The once eureka moment has taken on the characteristics of a devilish deal. Has Patrick solved unhappiness or will he deprive their humanity of some fundamental characteristic of personhood? Patrick who was once in celebration of the solution is now more lost than ever. What is a duty to his friend, what is best and right? The exterior of the Lexington is shown in the middle of two Galaxies. Marina is humming a tune in Sick Bay.…

Over the span of 13 years, the Transporter series has morphed into a modest little franchise – with emphasis on the “little” portion of that statement, since three combined installments have barely surpassed $200 million (total), worldwide. Still, conservative budgets allowed for tolerant box office turnarounds, thus leading to future sequels. At the same time, the conservative budget finally cost the franchise its leading man – Jason Statham, who started in all three of the previous films.…

Optogenetic stimulation of LH neurons expressing vesicular GABA transporter (LHVGat ; putative GABA neurons) induces feeding and optical self-stimulation, whereas selective ablation of these neurons reduces feeding, body weight gain, and motivation to obtain palatable reward124. VTA MC3R-GABA may decrease feeding and/or food reward by direct inhibition of LHVgat neurons. Additionally, VTA MC3R expressing neurons may affect feeding and food reward by indirect action on LH GABA neurons.…

Methylphenidate, commonly known as Ritalin, is a commonly prescribed central nervous system stimulant used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Medical use of methylphenidate began in 1960 and an estimated 2.4 billion doses are prescribed a year. Methylphenidate is thought to act through the inhibition of dopamine and norepinephrine transporters in neurons, especially those of dopaminergic pathways of the brain. The dopaminergic pathways of the brain are…

3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), more commonly known as ecstasy, has become a popular recreational drug for adolescents participating in “raves”. Taken as a tablet, MDMA indirectly increases the concentration of serotonin in the central nervous system through the inhibition of monoamine transporters, vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT) and monoamine oxidase (MAO). Although, MDMA also increases the amount of dopamine and noradrenaline, the excessive release of serotonin is the…

Dopamine transporters will then remove the dopamine from the synapse so that vesicular monoamine transporters can store the neurotransmitter into vesicles, release it, and protect it from oxidation (Riddle et al, 2006). Damages in dopamine transporters or the vesicular monoamine transporters will cause…

One might reply by saying that the original transporter is equal to the person that exits the transporter, but is not equal to the person on Mars, due to the physical continuity of the former relationship, which does not apply to the latter relationship. However, if this view is adopted, Parfit suggests that it is then important to take into account the replacement of the cells. This consequently results in questioning whether there is some critical point of replacement that then determines…

Transporter proteins comprise 5% of all human drug targets. This category encompasses the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family, ATPases, and the solute carrier (SLC) family. SLC6 is the most exploited family among all transporters (55%), with approximately 42 drugs currently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (Figure 4.9a)76. Currently, around 60 clinical trials are in progress for drugs that specifically target SLC6 family members, mainly for analgesia, psychiatric…
