Her smile relaxes me. Asking Questions and Getting Answers Ellen Zimmerman has thin light blonde hair that rests just below her earlobes, her bangs dangle just over her eyes, covering her eyebrows. I remember when I first saw her I thought: she is tall like me. Her office is smaller than I imagined, with few plants, some pictures of her kids, and lots of shelving. I sit in a green leathery chair at the side of her desk, I can’t help but think I might bump my head on the shelf that sits inches above me. The room has a bright glow about it, just like Zimmerman herself. She gets adjusted in her seat, and now I must speak. The question asking isn’t flawless, but Zimmerman understands. When you are an Anthropologist you study people and their culture, trying to understand their way of doing things. As an Anthropologist Ellen Zimmerman is a traveler. She has studied in places such as China, India, and Africa. I have never been eager to travel, but Zimmerman’s stories bring images of my lack of travels, I want to tell her this. Zimmerman got a chance to visit Germany as a high school student. It was there that Zimmerman possibly discovered her voice and power.
