    His mother had been a witch and he got only some of her gift, but he was indispensable at helping Viviana develop her powers. Even when she felt she couldn’t grow anymore, he encouraged her to stretch further than she felt comfortable with. Socorro could have told her, get control of your fear and your power can grow beyond all imagination. Her fear was her undoing. Jacob became her lover and they spent the next ten years together, traveling and learning all they could about Viviana’s powers.
