In the novel De Niro’s Game by Rawi Hage and the article “ ‘Torture, murder, fighting': Syrian refugee in Oswestry talks about the life they left behind,” the protagonist and the Syrian refugee both wanted to leave their own country. By fleeing, they faced countless challenges, such as escaping a corrupted warzone, starting a new life, and leaving their family members behind. The refugee crisis is a nightmare for those affected by it, as one must surpass numerous difficulties in order to survive and attain a new life. In both the novel and the article, one of the main reasons the protagonist Bassam and the Syrian refugee wanted to leave home is because it had turned into a corrupted warzone where peace cease to exist. As a matter of fact, their countries were invaded everyday, or it had simply turned into a warzone itself. In Bassam’s scenario, his homeland, Lebanon, became a landfill of corpses and he encounters horrific acts, such as a death of a person, almost everyday. Furthermore, his country's rules, rights and beliefs were violated and was replaced by tragedy and disaster. This was evident in the novel De Niro’s Game, when the protagonist’s mother stated “Come down; they are targeting the…

The day I moved was a remembrance of what is and what was. It was a hot summer afternoon in Nairobi, Kenya with not much to do outside but gaze at the vast sandy lands that envelope part of my village. Every day was a new experience to grow and learn.
