When starting something new or changing an aspect of your life, you may have a little voice in your head that is doubtful of your abilities to succeed. The little voice that says things like “I am such a disappointment” or in my case, “Why did I even think about taking Psychology 150? I can not pass that class.” This little voice, as small as it may be, slowly eats away at your confidence until there is nothing left...unless you learn how to diminish it. On the same note, while reading an article titled “3 Secrets for Silencing Your Inner Critic,” by Andy Molinsky, I learned many things on how to do just that. This man never missed an opportunity to mock him. It…

This poem, written in 1922, expresses how Cummings attempted to convey his emotions through his work. This poem remains true to his romantic style of writing. He describes how her voice takes him “up/ Up/ with the pale important/ stars and the Humorous/ moon.” His flowery diction and seemingly random, though clearly intentional capitalization throughout the poem create interest and emphasis on important words such as “Up… Humorous…” and, “Sweetly.” He also uses personification to create a…

connect to Stephen King on a deeper level, and I have his writing to thank for this. How characters interact through dialogue reveals a lot about them, although they may not know it themselves. On page 86, King recalls the time the paperback rights to Carrie were bought. He received a large sum of money, which was more than enough to provide for his family. On this page, he uses dialogue to grab the reader's attention and voice his emotions. His use of dialogue is very effective here because…
