The book I read over the past few weeks is called, ‘’The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid’’ by Rick Riordan. My opinion of this book is that it was witty and entertaining that in some places left me anxious to read the next page and in other places left me wanting to put the book down in frustration. The genre of the book is a dramatic adventure. In this review I will be looking at the setting, the characterisation, the plot, the dictation and the conclusion of the book. The Red Pyramid is written in present tense throughout the book. The location of the book differs and changes dramatically. The main location is in an urban United States of America in different states but also includes a present day urban London setting and a rural Egypt setting.…

Citizen Kane. I have read so much about it throughout the years, but never sat and watched the film many say to be one of the best ever made. This time though, I went ahead and watched it to finally get a better understanding of the film along with its traditional narrative and technical elements of classic Hollywood cinema. First off, the film is black and white. It came out at a time when black and white films were released more often than the color format, which was more expensive to make.…

After viewing Citizen Kane I was really blown away by the editing techniques which play a huge role in the story telling of a newspaper tycoon who was given the power from a very young age, but in fact all he wanted was love. The continuity editing technique is present from start to finish in this piece which moves the story along without spoon feeding the viewer about the events taking place. The use of montage and fading from one scene to the other allows the viewer one last glance or breath…

The typical reader of fantasy literature wouldn’t expect to find symbols for Christianity in a book. But a reader of a work by C.S Lewis can expect just that. Lewis was a poet, scholar, and above all, one of the most renowned authors of fantasy literature during the 20th century. He was best known for The Chronicles of Narnia series, and specifically, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. He was a devout Christian and was a defender and teacher of the faith. His faith and life experiences had a…

Finally, Lewis uses his Biblical understanding of Heaven to signify that Heaven is immeasurably more important when in comparison to either Earth or Hell. The substance of Heaven is truer and the reality of Heaven much deeper than the temporal substance of Earth. Lewis demonstrates this through his description of Heaven and the corresponding description of Hell. He writes; I had the sense of being in a larger space, perhaps even a larger sort of space, than I had ever known before: as if the sky…

ourselves in danger. Yes, the drones offer the families of soldiers to not have to worry about the death of their loved one but the soldiers know what could happen. In a way they are prepared for the worst. If the drones were sent out and maybe hacked because there is no rider in them they could be used against us and innocent people die. Or the drones are copied by another nation, such as the ones that we use the drones on and out of rage they use it against us. Technology has the ability to…
