This class has been an interesting class this semester. I never dreamed of actually having to take a writing class. When my advisor told me there was going to be a Comp one class and also a Comp two class that I had to take I was worried. I have learned so many things about correctly writing over this semester that it is very insightful now. I will always be the reader, not the writer but that ok because I have had a wonderful Comp teacher that has helped me more than I could have dreamed. I know that if I have any problems with not understanding specifically what is being assigned that the extra help is there. As a class, we learned to help each other and help the other students to stay on course with each assignment. There are so many things this class has taught me about writing. It’s not just sitting down and spitting out crap. It’s about knowing what you are doing in advance. If there is a specific paper that needs to be written, our teacher taught us the correct way of finding how to write that paper. I had never heard of the different styles of writing before this class, and it taught me those styles. I now know how to write a paper in each format and where to go to make sure that it is…

I’ve been writing forever. I did it all the time when I was a little kid (little, because I technically still am a “kid”); I began with animal-centric fables and eventually graduated to ten-pagers about kids with magical forests behind their houses. Even when I wasn’t writing, I was expressing in that same practiced way; I lectured imaginary audiences while making my bed and brushing my teeth every morning. The internal monologue never stopped, and neither did the laugh track; writing it down…

In chapter three if you read it in depth it really does help with the understanding of writing and breaks down the steps of the writing process. I honestly wish my previous writing classes gave us this. I have never been the best writer, but this really helps. Planning is really essential to a great paper. When we plan we should always analyze the situation, gather the information, select the right medium, and organize the information. This is really important in any type of writing whether it…

However, when I do read, the writing must be strong and know how to tell a story without losing my focus. This semester, if I had a dollar for every time I heard the “What makes this essay a strong essay?” I’ll probably be rich now, but at the same time, I would finally have an idea of what makes for a strong essay. In my experience in this particular English course, I feel in order for any writing be considered a strong one, it must be able to tell a story without the reader losing focus of the…

school was ending and preparation for high school English began. Reading or writing outside of school, usually, comes naturally to me; there is no over thinking involved. However, at school, I could not write a single sentence without struggling and double checking it to make sure the flow was right. I suppose it was the pressure of knowing my writing was being graded that made me ensure it was “perfect.” It could also be that I was not as comfortable writing in school as I was at home. In my…

Essay 2: Writing With Style Fewer words. Two word sentences. Trimble’s lessons on how to become a writer strikes at the fundamentals of how writing has been traditionally taught. As a student, learning how to write usually involves the tedious process of how to best shape your thoughts into the rigid structure of teacher expectation. At times, this best resembles trying to fit an elephant into a refrigerator. A student’s mind is noisy and cluttered, but expansive; however, teaching to memorize…

The following list are six take aways that I have gotten from ENG 315 about writing instruction. The six topics are shared writing, inventive spelling, genre with purpose, mini lessons, revising, build writing into daily schedule, and integrating writing and reading together. Throughout class discussions, chapter readings, article readings, assignments, and writing placement, I was able to understand the following aspects of writing more concretely. Revising: Revising was a topic we…

processing situations and emotions are laid bare. This can lead to fear of real or perceived scrutiny from readers familiar to them and also from those who are unknown (pp. 28). Writers are then, left with two choices: to allow oneself to be paralyzed by fear or to keep writing as one comes to terms with these anxieties. While every writer should aspire to write well and be clearly understood, there stands the reality that writing honestly can possibly jeopardize important relationships. Writing…

“Leadership and the Importance of Writing Well” Reflection As a writer I judge myself on a scale one to ten, I’m about a six, which is my honest opinion. My current writing ability could offer me not many jobs because, I’m just learning more and more about writing and well, right now, my skills are not the greatest as I want them. Grammar is the main area of writing I would change. I am really bad at grammar, I think you can tell but, I am willing to improve on my grammar skills because, it is…
