    On December fifth, 1914, a man stood on the deck of a ship with twenty-seven other men, heading towards Antarctica to make history. Who was this man, and what was he planning on doing? Sir Ernest Shackleton was the leader of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. The goal of this expedition was to make a journey to the center of Antarctica and across the other side of the continent, something that had never been done before in history.
