The front page of Nikolai Gogol’s work begins with a popular saying, “If your face is askew don’t blame the mirror.” This quote sets up his purpose and message quite aptly. Gogol wanted his play to be a reflection of real life in Russia so his audience could see the skewness of Russian life. As a scholar once noted about Gogol, “His is the theater of destruction, distortion and hyperbole, and it is also a moral and angry theater in that it teaches, through tragic-comic slapstick, a lesson in shattered complacencies.” This is an accurate depiction of The Government Inspector, which…

While he did give prior approval of the storyboard content to students, he unfortunately did not supervise the students in this off-of-school-grounds activity, nor did he inform the administration, attendance office, or…

An Inspector Calls is a play written by Dramatist J.B Priestley in 1945. Priestley was a left-wing socialist and this was one of the factors which influenced him to write this play. Even though the play was written in 1945, it was actually set in 1912, right before the start of the First World War. It is set in the spring of 1912 at the Brumley home of the Birlings, a prosperous industrial family in the North Midlands, getting involved in the death of a woman named Eva Smith. The Inspector uses…

commenced so again he thinks he knows but he does not. Birling then makes a third prediction, that the great new ship, The Titanic, is ‘unsinkable’ and in a matter of days it sank, which for the third time proves that he thinks he knows the world but the fact that he is wrong in all three cases validates that he doesn’t know anything about the world at all. Then Birling states that he expects to get a ‘knighthood’ from the government, this demonstrates that he is an arrogant being. H. G. Wells…

Inspector Muggins leant back in his chair and took a long drag on his cigar, with the contented air of a man who is paid to do nothing but sit in an office and drink whisky and puff on cigars. Which is exactly what Muggins did. The town Muggins lived in was a quiet one, so there was rarely any need for him to get off his considerable bottom and lumber off to some crime scene. So it came as something of a surprise when the phone rang. So much of a surprise, in fact, that Muggins fell off his…

“An Inspector Calls”, is a play written by JB Priestley in 1945. It is a thought-provoking play that explores the issues of accepting responsibility. The play is centered on a wealthy family in the upper class, who refuse to accept their involvement in Eva Smiths death.
